Every now and again, I must remind myself that “this” Doctor is a Daughter, Nurse and Caregiver.
Working in healthcare(over 25+ years) in the acute-care setting, I have witnessed many health situations of patients. My background is cardiology(heart failure)and there are many complications that arise with heart conditions. Many patients were older adults with multiple chronic conditions that were poorly managed over the years, while others experienced the progression of disease or illness.
What is ever present …populations are living longer and with living longer comes the need for caregivers. Informal caregivers are unpaid angels that care for someone without pay. Have you asked yourself who will care for you? Have you asked yourself who will care for your ageing parents? Have you asked yourself who will take over your affairs? Ask yourself!
Proactive actions and behaviors are necessary and vital. Don’t leave others to figure things out. Start now! As we embrace our wonder years, work in the arena of proactive preparation. Be proactive with decision making! If you need insight, just ask!
