Topic: How Would Our Elders Rate Us on Martin Luther King Day

In 2022, I am grateful that our society has given honor where honor is due. Americans who have stood tall in the face of adversity have continued to dream for a better tomorrow. The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy is not so much about the man but more about the mission of the man. We all can speak out and speak up. FYI…it is our duty to speak up when injustice or harm is witnessed. How would our elders rate us? The racial justice of my mother’s time, the 1930 and 1940, have shown slight growth in the 20th Century. Agree? Disagree?

I remember my mother attending a predominately white university, Wilberforce, as one of two African American students. She felt the differences of others were what made a community strong. Being violent was a sign of a bully who could not express themselves and had a warped reality related to others with differences. Some of our elders did not get to witness peace and goodwill. Peace and goodwill are action items we all can participate in if we are willing. Let our elders who are no longer with us look down and see we are doing our part.
