Your Proactive Caregiver Advocate: Dr. Cynthia Speaks!

Topic: What Can We Learn by Being a Caregiver: Wisdom of Our Elders

Let me start by saying…I have missed you! I missed sharing my blogs with you! I have been away with the Leadership Experience Speaker (LET) Tour in Troy Michigan. I had the incredible opportunity to share my caregiving story on the national and international stage. Thank you, Shawn Fair, and the LET for believing in me and opening up this awesome opportunity.

The take-away from my presentation and presentation of others is…we all have a story, and we can gain wisdom from the words we speak and the words of others. Sometimes it takes years to decide to share the raw lived experiences of our lives. But when we do, the purpose is to encourage one to think, reflect, understand, readjust, forgive yourself and mature, while showing appreciation and gratitude for our personal experiences that have made us strong and firmed our foundations!

As I reflect on the wisdom given by the matriarch of our family, it has become a calling card to reach for the limitless possibilities that await me. The initial wisdom from my mother was to let God order your steps. Get an education. It is never too late. Find a job where you never work a day in your life. Use your education to help others. Help someone along the way in action and deed. Do not be afraid to fail, for failure is your opportunity to get back up. Change your landscape if it impairs. Know that no one can make you feel like you do not want to feel. Give your best. Be yourself! All of these nuggets will help you stand tall, be bold, and speak loudly. Listening to our elders will help each of us make a difference on this side of heaven.

As Your Proactive Caregiver Advocate, I choose wisdom! What wisdom tips can you share with me? I look forward to hearing the wisdom tips you have learned caring for an elderly loved one.
