Your Proactive Caregiver Advocate: Dr. Cynthia Speaks!
Being a Caregiver…Being a Care Recipient During the Holidays
The holiday season can be a distressing time for seniors, especially those living alone. The seniors that live in nursing facilities away from their family during the holiday season, offers another layer of pain because of visitation restrictions. We have COVID-19 to thank for that! I am being sarcastic!

So, how do we keep our spirits up and how do we lift the spirits of those we love while keeping them safe? My first mind said…be crazy…be different…think outside the box. Make laughter by telling jokes and cracking yourself up! I want caregivers to have a happy mindset. This is the only way we can transfer ‘’happy’’ to those we love. Sacrificing self-joy can be felt and could transfer to someone close to you. It is almost like when you are mad…everyone around you knows when you are mad. Right?
So here is my two-cent to boost holiday cheer for our aging loved ones.
It’s the holiday season…eat what you want…well within reason. How about having a favorite meal delivered. Music has wonderful affects. Turn it up…loud and dance. Watch cartoons and laugh! Never underestimate the power of sharing holiday cheer in different ways. And by all means…count your blessings. Remember to take care of you, while giving to loved ones.
