Your Proactive Caregiver Advocate: Dr. Cynthia Speaks!
Caregiving, Thanksgiving, and a Pandemic
Who would have ever thought these three words would be our reality? Well, they are, and we must overcome the temptation to gather outside of our bubble. The world is different! The way we do things are different! As a caregiver, you must protect loved ones under your care. What can we do to enjoy the spirit of Thanksgiving and keep those we care about safe?
Here are my two cents!
Stay within your village. Forego huge gathering this year. Fill the house with soft music you appreciate. Enjoy dinner with your favorite foods and deserts on a smaller scale. Still decorate your table with a nice tablecloth and a colorful centerpiece. Set your table with fancy plates, silverware, and goblets. Our current situation will pass, but we must stay vigilant. I know it is hard for all of us. For me, holiday without my mommy is hard. She made the best cornbread dressing on the planet. Missing mommy’s cooking and adding the reality that we cannot celebrate Thanksgiving with others is, frankly…TOUGH! We are social beings and hanging out with family, and friend is the way we have always done it. This year, we must do something different. I am counting on YOU!
